Here are some of my favourite books that are good introductions to whole food or Paleo eating. These are the books that started me on my own health journey.
Health and marketing guru Dianne Sanfilipo is a comprehensive and simple introduction to the Paleo diet. This is a fantastic resource for people new to eating grain and dairy free. This is a good place to start if the world of “real food” and animal fats is just too scary. Far from being preachy or restrictive Sanfilipo outlines the basics of digestion and why certain foods will support health better. Two great features of this book include a graphic guide for digestion and a number of tailored meal plans that will support bio-indivdual requirements.
We all know what a “beer belly” looks like, but did you know gluten and wheat do the same thing? Coealiac disease and gluten intolerance are becoming increasingly more common because diets that contain gluten and are based around refined carbohydrates.
In his first book, biochemist Robb Wolf, provides a simple introduction to why a diet free of so-called neolithic foods can cure a host of diseases. Wolf has been one of the leading figures in the global shift towards ancestral health. His book gives readers all the information they need to understand why the introduction of grains and dairy made the human race less healthy. The book highlights four essential pillars to good health: nutrition, movement (not just exercise), sleep and stress management.
